THE SONSHINE BULLETIN

MARITAL BLISS

A dietician was once addressing a large audience in Chicago. "The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here, years ago. Red meat is awful. Soft drinks erode your stomach lining. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. Vegetables can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the long-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. But there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and we all have, or will, eat it. Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years after eating it?" An old man in the front row stood up and said, "Wedding cake!"

NEFF'S NOTES

by Larry Neff

This past week our older children in Costa Rica were able to do some community service in our area. They found a very poor family with 8 children living in deplorable conditions. Our children under the direction of John Orr (our teacher) took the family some groceries and spent the next day remodeling their house and adding a room. Congratulations to John and the students. This was a good learning experience for our children. Please pray for our former Lighthouse children that are now in Bible college. They are doing well in their classes; but they are struggling financially. All of them are working jobs and doing their best to pay their own way.

If you can help them with a one-time gift please send your gift marked "College Fund" to:

IF MY BODY WERE A CAR

If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull, but that's not the worst of it. My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close and at night. My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently. But here's the worst of it -- almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter.....either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!

TODAY'S THOUGHT: KEEP SHINING

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven

A lamp must be plugged into the electric outlet and the bulb must be in working order for the light to shine and illuminate the darkness around it.

We as Christian must stay plugged into God each day if we want our light to shine before those around us. It is our opportunity, our joy, and responsibility to be a light for our Lord.

To stay plugged in and remain in working order we must spend time with God everyday in prayer and Bible reading. Is your light shining brightly?

SMILE AWHILE

A doctor conducting a physical examination noticed several bad bruises on the patient's shins. 'Those from playing hockey or soccer?' asked the doctor. "Neither," replied the patient, "Bridge."

RULES FOR DOGS

*The cat is not a self-propelled squeaky toy.

* I will not steal the remote control and bury it.

* Mommy's pots and pans do not need to be taken outside and added to my "borrowed things" pile.

* I will not bite the officer's hand when he reaches in for Mom's driver's license and car registration.

* I will not do 90mph over all the furniture where people are sitting.

WORDS OF WISDOM

It's good to have all the props pulled out from under us occasionally. It gives us some sense of what is rock under our feet and what is sand. A great deal of accomplishment is lost in this world for want of a little courage. One today is worth two tomorrows. Knowing what must be done does away with fear. If you can't change your circumstances, change the way you respond to them.

GENEALOGY QUIPS

My family coat of arms ties at the back ... is that normal?

My family tree is a few branches short! All help appreciated.

My ancestors must be in a witness protection program!

Shake your family tree and watch the nuts fall!

I looked into my family tree and found out I was a sap ...

I'm not stuck, I'm ancestrally challenged.

THE OLD PATHS

I liked the old paths, when

Moms were at home. Dads were at work.
Brothers went into the army.
And sisters got married BEFORE having children!
Crime did not pay; Hard work did;
And people knew the difference.
Moms could cook; Dads would work;
Children would behave.
Husbands were loving; Wives were supportive;
And children were polite.
Women wore the jewelry; and Men wore the pants.
Women looked like ladies; Men looked like gentlemen;
And children looked decent.
People loved the truth, and hated a lie;
They came to church to get IN, Not to get OUT!
Hymns sounded Godly; Sermons sounded helpful;
Rejoicing sounded normal; and crying sounded sincere.
Cursing was wicked; Drinking was evil;
and divorce was unthinkable.
The flag was honored;
America was beautiful; And God was welcome!
We read the Bible in public; Prayed in school;
And preached from house to house.
To be called an American was worth dying for;
To be called a Christian was worth living for;
To be called a traitor was a shame!
Sex was a personal word.
Homosexual was an unheard of word,
And abortion was an illegal word.
Preachers preached from the Bible;
Singers sang from the heart;
And sinners turned to the Lord for salvation!
Laws were based on the Bible;
Homes read the Bible; And churches taught the Bible.
Church was where you found Christians on the Lord's Day,
Rather than in the garden, on the creek bank, or on the golf course.

I STILL LIKE THE OLD PATHS THE BEST!!!!!
